COONA BUZZ: 6th August 2020
The Coonabarabran Jockey Club’s 2020 Winter Race Meeting was held on Saturday, 25 July.
While the committee and volunteers had committed a lot of hard work in presenting a top- class course and grounds and ensuring all COVID- safe practices were in effect, unfortunately the meeting was abandoned after race three due to lack of visibility following persistent rain.
However, local trainer Wayne Martyn managed to land a winner at his home-town track in race two, with Resetting Edge, ridden by Kath Bell Pitomac, coming from near the back of the field with a big finish to track down the favourite Japingka, and Zariz Raider to take out the Maiden Plate.
The fabulous fashionable Jaki Brady did not let the wet weather deter her from enjoying the chance to dress up.
Congratulating jockey Kath Bell-Pitomac on her win were trainer, Wayne Martyn and owner, Ben Mason.
Baradine horse trainer, Graeme Brookner had two runners - unfortunately the meeting was rained out.
Braving the cold wet weather at Coonabarabran’s Winter Race Meeting were Natalie Bailey and Warrumbungle Shire mayor, Denis Todd.
The barrier attendants made sure to social distance.
Rebecca Dowling is enjoying being back in Coonabarabran and working at the high school.
Jockey club treasurer, Emily Doolan with committee members, Caz Dowling and Helen Waters, were disappointed the races had to be abandoned after race three due to rain.
Practicing social distancing at the races were committee members Peter Waters and Birdy Redfern.
