Fires claim two properties
It was a busy weekend for local fire crews, attending two property fires in as many days.
The first blaze occurred in Horsley Street, Coonabarabran on Saturday, 18 September, when NSW Fire and Rescue was called to a set of units on fire.
Fire-fighters were quickly on the scene and brought the flames under control, however, several units were completely gutted.
The second fire took place in the early hours of Sunday morning, when NSW Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire at a property along the Mendooran Road near Mollyan.
The property was destroyed in the fire.
No persons were injured in either incident.
Crews from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) were also in attendance at both scenes.
RFS district officer, Aaron Powell, said it was a timely reminder for residents to ensure their appliances were well-serviced and smoke alarms were operational with fresh batteries.
“If it wasn’t for the working smoke alarms, the outcome could have been very different,” Mr Powell said.
“Even though the weather is warming up it is still important to remain vigilant with these things.”
