Girls having a ball
Coonabarabran Junior League’s under 10s league tag players have had their spirits lifted, as the community rallied to help them field a full team.
After starting the season with just four eager girls in the under 10s, parents put a call out for more numbers.
The strategy was a success, with a further five young girls coming forward to round out the team of nine.
Existing team members warmly welcomed the newcomers, leading by example with sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
Team manager, Jenna Freebairn said she was excited for the potential of the local team.
“Having a full team means they can train hard, get into competition mode and have fun,” Mrs Freebairn said.
Having played all around the Warrumbungle Shire, there is great opportunity for the under 10’s team.
Meeting every Tuesday and Thursday to train, the girls remain focused.
Coach, Alicia Stanton trains the girls through social competitions on Tuesdays, with Thursdays involving skills, drills and fitness.
A developmental team, the girls are getting to know each other and are improving their skill sets.
The sportsmanship the girls are displaying is noted by their team manager.
“This group of talented girls is gaining so much confidence, week by week, with lots of wins on game days,” Mrs Freebairn said.
The Coonabarabran Junior Rugby League Club welcomes the girls into the footy family and the support for their success is strong.
