New mural a swooping success
The Coonabarabran Times building in Dalgarno Street has undergone a makeover in the lead up to this Saturday’s Boomin’ Birds Spring Fest, with local artist and wattle 3.0 cover star, Zac Craig, creating a stunning Australiana flora and fauna art installation for the facade.
The mural project, which was installed last weekend, forms part of the new street festival that is set to transform Coonabarabran into a wonderland of light and creativity.
CoonabarabranTimes director, Lynne Estens, said the artwork had injected some life back into the old building.
“We’ve had such amazing feedback from customers and the public about the ‘new look’ facade,” Mrs Estens said.
“It also gives our small team a much-needed positive lift walking into work each morning.”
With roots in Baradine, Mrs Estens said the magpies were a gentle nod to her home town.
“Newspapers, like magpies, are also traditionally black and white, but magpies also warble to communicate, which reflects the core of our business.
“The wattle represents the resilience of our community and its people, but the connection to our wattle magazine makes it even more special.
“We’re grateful to the event organisers for selecting our building, Zac for nailing the brief and Brett England and Harry Andrews for the installation.
“Make sure you stop and grab a swooping selfie with the birds this Saturday!”
