THE COMPANY
Published for locals, by locals, the Coonabarabran Times is an independent family-owned newspaper servicing the town of Coonabarabran and outlying communities in the Warrumbungle Shire area. The masthead has been entrenched in the local community for close to 100 years, and remains the only local newspaper in circulation. From in-depth news, analysis and opinion, to Council happenings and junior sport, the community newspaper gives local readers exactly what they want – information on what is taking place in their backyard.
THE AREA
Warrumbungle is a Gamilaroi/Gamilaraay word meaning crooked mountain, and for thousands of years it has been a spiritual place for the custodians of this land - the Gamilaroi, Wiradjuri and Weilwan people. Coonabarabran is the major town of Warrumbungle Shire Council, which covers some 12,380 square kilometres of regional NSW, also encapsulating the towns of Baradine, Binnaway, Coolah, Dunedoo and Mendooran. The shire is home to a population of 10,000. Coonabarabran is located two hours from other larger regional cities including Dubbo, Tamworth and Mudgee, and approximately six hours from Sydney.
