Coona Cup: frock n' roll
Jockey Clayton Gallagher capped off a treble of wins when he saluted in the 1600-metre Coonabarabran Cup Showcase event on Sunday, 24 October.
Trained by Clint Lundholm, Notabadidea jumped from gate seven and settled in the middle half of the field.
Coming around the home turn and with about 400 metres to travel, Gallagher sat outside the leading pack giving away about four lengths.
With 100 metres left a wall of four horses fought out the win, but it was the widest runner, Notabadidea, that launched in the final 50 metres to take the win by a ????head to Oakfield Captain and Wild Rocket, who ran third.
Gallagher’s ride in the Cup was his third for the day, having already taken out race four the 1400 metre Barron’s Tyre and Mechanical Class 1 aboard Verdi.
In an almost identical ride to his win in the Cup, Gallagher sat Verdi just off the page, settling fifth, before rounding the home bend and opening up.
The job wasn’t yet done for Verdi though, and the six-year-old gelding showed true grit to fight off the late-finishing???? Apache Red and Hot Bahama.
Gallagher’s second win of the day came on board On a Promise, the Brett Robb trained, six-year-old gelding.
It was the gelding's fifth win in as many starts.
Again Gallagher sat outside and stalked the leading contingent until unleashing in the final 300???? ???metres.
On a Promise slogged it out with early leader, Manabar, in the final 50 metres to win by a head, with the race favourite, Praline, coming in third.
Jockey, Brooke Stower also came away with three wins from the day.
She took out the first race???? on Diamonds Galore, the sixth on Depth that Varies and the last on Danspur.
