Fun and fitness at social oz-tag
For the last eight weeks, a group of community members have come together for a social oz-tag competition, played in Coonabarabran.
Local coach, Poi Birtles said she had organised this social oz-tag competition under the banner of the Coonabarabran Senior Unicorns Rugby League Club, with a focus on connecting the community through sport.
“We created this social competition to bring everyone together and keep people connected through keeping active,” Mrs Birtles said.
“Our community really needs that connection and I think the social competition has been able to bring that.”
With finals to be held on Thursday, 14 December, Mrs Birtles said those who wish to compete for first and second place will have the opportunity, but many simply enjoy getting to spend time with each other and getting some healthy exercise in the process.
“Many of our teams are just there for the connection – connecting with friends, family, and getting out of the house.”
Mrs Birtles said that all who have participated in the social oz-tag competition have loved it, and that it was only the weather that was able to get them down.
"Apart from the unpredictable weather, everyone has been excited to come down every week - I think they were a bit disappointed when we had to cancel a few social comps because of the rain."
But with the weather now cleared, it's back to business, with team members excited to get back out on the field for next week's finals.
