Hearty welcome to new residents
Moving to a new town can be challenging. Where can I find out how to...? Who can tell me...? What clubs and organisations are there here? How do I meet people?
When Gayle Poirier first moved from interstate to Coonabarabran a few years ago she was confused, especially by the process of registering her vehicle – Service NSW and Warrumbungle Shire Council offices were a mystery to her. She wanted to join a community group, but did not know how to find out what was available.
What would you like to ask about living in Coonabarabran?
When the Building our Warrumbungle Communities project was completed and documented in 2020-21, the need for a way to welcome and help new residents was front and centre in the list of things that were considered important by those who attended in Coonabarabran. The 2357 Development Group decided to take action and hold a function to do just this.
On Sunday, 23 July, between 11am and 3pm in the Coonabarabran Town Hall, next to the Commonwealth Bank, everyone who feels they are new to the district is invited to come along and meet people.
“We have made contact with many different groups and organisations in the town, and invited them also to be there,” said Coonabarabran Rotary member, Jo Wilkin.
“New residents can find out what there is to do in town, ask as many questions as they like. If we don’t know the answers, we will be happy to direct you to someone who does!
“Maybe you are a local but you like to meet new people? Now is your chance to come to the Town Hall on Sunday, 23 July and make our newcomers feel welcome.
“A light lunch of soup and rolls will be provided. It will be a great opportunity to have a chat, and find out a little more about your new ‘home town’.”
