New mayor for Warrumbungle Shire
Councillor Ambrose Doolan has been elected mayor, following Warrumbungle Shire Council’s mayoral election held on Thursday, 17 September, while Cr Aniello Iannuzzi retained his role as deputy mayor.
The position of mayor was not contested and Cr Doolan thanked Cr Denis Todd for his last two years as mayor.
Cr Doolan and his wife, Lisa, have been part of the Coonabarabran region for some time, having purchased the family farm in the mid-1980s and establishing a 1400 commercial Angus breeder operation.
Born and raised in the Warrumbungle region, Cr Doolan’s foray in agriculture has also expanded to importing and retailing direct drill air seeders from Canada since 2004.
Their achievements in business have recently been recognised as winners in the NSW Royal Agricultural Society Paddock to Plate Competition.
Cr Doolan has held a number of positions in the community, including equestrian and rugby clubs in the Coonabarabran district, and as part of the Cooinda board and St Lawrence Catholic Parish Church Finance committee.
In his spare time, Cr Doolan enjoys a round of golf, all things equestrian and rugby.
These positions will be held for a one-year term. Local government elections have been postponed until September 2021 due to COVID-19.
