Oval facilities in dire need of upgrade
Number three oval is in a state of disrepair.
The facilities used by the town’s soccer, rugby and cricket clubs are in dire need of a facelift.
That message comes from the Coonabrabran Soccer Club’s Sallie Turner, who said, alarmingly, the facilities failed to cater for female players.
“There are no female change rooms - there’s men’s, but no women’s,” she said.
“That goes against anti-discrimination laws. “At the very least there should be appropriate changing facilities.”
As a whole though, Mrs Turner said the entire facility needed urgent attention.
She said a new kitchen, sheds and fencing was required, as well as an upgrade to the car park area.
“Whenever we get a bit of rain this pothole fills up and keeps getting bigger and bigger,” she said.
“We’ve got no hot water. If we want hot water we have to boil the kettles.
“It all needs upgrading, the whole lot.”
Mrs Turner said she feels that number three oval often gets overlooked when it comes to maintenance and development.
She said with other areas receiving a new pump track and play area, it meant number three oval had again fallen down the priority list.
“We are one of the biggest sporting clubs in town,” she said.
“We have between 200 and 220 players year round using the facilities and that’s not including the rugby and cricket clubs, and yet we can’t even get hot water.”
Mrs Turner said she was aware Warrumbungle Shire Council had plans to complete upgrades, however, nothing had come to fruition.
“There are drawings and everything in the plan, but still nothing has happened,” she said.
“What is it going to take to get something done? Does someone have to get hurt?”
Warrumbungle Shire Council mayor, Ambrose Doolan said although works at number three oval had been on the agenda, a lack of funds to complete them was a major concern.
“We have the plans, it’s just a matter of getting the dough,” Cr Doolan said.
“We have a limited amount of money, but it is on the radar we just need the cash.”
