The Real Country Strategic Project – a joint iniative from Warrumbungle, Coonamble and Gilgandra Shire Councils – has presented its draft strategy and concepts of the Castlereagh River Infrastructure elements.
At the heart of this strategy is a commitment to sustainable tourism that celebrates the region’s natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and the enduring spirit of its communities.
The document outlines potential projects that could harness these concepts, proposing a new river’s edge activation with acoustic treatments in Coonabarabran, adjacent to the Mary Jane Cain Bridge and a new river-front amphitheatre.
Warrumbungle Shire Council mayor, Cr Ambrose Doolan, said the collaboration represented a significant milestone in the region’s development.
“It is an opportunity to showcase the potential of our region and focus on enhancing our visitor experience, promoting the ‘real country’ experience, and supporting economic initiatives and local infrastructure projects,” Cr Doolan said.
The Real Country Strategic Project has been a multi-year journey, bringing together the expertise and dedication of the three Councils to shape the future of our communities for locals and visitors alike.
Cr Doolan said the project was a reflection of our shared values and goals.
“It is an exciting step forward in showcasing the potential of our region,” he said.
“We invite you to participate in the online exhibition where you can explore project documents and provide valuable feedback.
“We value your perspective and input is vital in ensuring that our plans reflect the aspirations of our residents.”
