Plaza packs a punch!
The newly completed plaza in Little Timor Street, Coonabarabran, has been a massive hit with tourists and local business owners.
The dull, grey laneway was transformed into a colourful, vibrant area to relax and sit and enjoy a coffee and food from the local eateries.
Kodi Brady, from the Town Beautification Committee, which was largely responsible for the project, said it had achieved its main goal of attracting people to town.
“I know people who have come from Dubbo just to check it out,” Mr Brady said.
“It’s been received really well and, on good days, every time you go past there are usually people in there.”
Cr Brady, who was recently re-elected to Warrumbungle Shire Council for a second term, said a new Town Beautification Committee would be put together in the near future and that there were plans on the back burner to see more areas of the town undergo similar rejuvenation.
“Particularly more seating around the main street area,” he said.
“And there were plans to have a look at what we can do with the gardens from the bridge to the clock tower to make it look a little more inviting.”
Vivian Evans, from Dark Sky Innovations, whose office space fronts the new area, couldn’t speak highly enough of what it has done for Coonabarabran.
“I think it’s absolutely fantastic - I see people there using the space consistently, all day, every day,” she said.
“Kids are playing hopscotch, people having coffees - and the best bit I think is there’s wheelchair access, so it’s very inclusive.
“It would be nice to have more of these little community connection spaces and unique little nooks and crannies around town.
Cr Brady said to keep an eye out in the Coonabarabran Times for more information regarding the Town Beautification Committee and called on any interested community members wanting to become involved to contact him via Facebook.
He also asked for anyone interested in volunteering to help with the upkeep of the Little Timor Plaza to get in touch.
