Baradine artist, Tina Pech, has been a fixture of the regional arts scene for a number of years. After a successful showing of her exhibit, “Bookish” in Dubbo, she has brought her creativity back to the local scene, with a new showing at the Coonabarabran SPACE gallery. The piece above is a “cascade of books”. (All images: Steve Turner).
Tina considers this showing of “Bookish” to be a remix or remastering of sorts, evoking the full sense of her original exhibition, albeit in a smaller venue. With three-dimensional art that fills the space, it is an exploration of books, the way they make you feel and the magic they create.
Joining the enthralled audience, we checked out the variety of objects displayed, all based around the book theme. Some took on a vivid depiction of the human body as well, with several “hearts”. As Tina explained, books have a body of their own, with a “spine” and other parts, so this metaphor is perfect and extends throughout the show.
Tina spoke about her love of “books and reading and paper and stationery” and how this became a part of her art. All of those things feed her “imagination and creativity”, which goes back into her art.
The appreciative audience enjoyed afternoon tea after Tina’s introduction, and the SPACE Gallery Mother’s Day prize was drawn also, won by Annie Beard and Kyle Doran.
With pieces on display and for sale, you can view the exhibition for the rest of this month at SPACE Gallery, 41 Dalgarno Street, Coonabarabran.
