CBD footpath upgrades commence
Work has commenced on the Dalgarno Street footpath in Coonabarabran.
Workers are widening the footpaths on both sides of the road west of the clock tower to Crazy Sam’s to improve pedestrian access and reduce the chance of vehicles reversing into objects on the existing paths.
To combat that the paths will be widened by 1.5 metres.
Council has advised that Dalgarno Street will remain open during the works, but it could cause disruption to parking and foot traffic in the area.
“I am looking forward to once again making improvements to streets in the Coonabarabran township,” Warrumbungle Shire mayor, Cr Ambrose Doolan said.
“In recent times we have seen the need to replace verandah posts after they were impacted by a reversing vehicle, and I have also seen pedestrianshaving difficulty stepping onto the kerb.
“This proposal is a great project that will improve the amenity of a busy section of Dalgarno Street, Coonabarabran.”
Council has allocated $160,000 towards the project which is entirely funded from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
