Hole-in-one for Golfie
The hardwork from Zoe Holcombe and the rest of the team at the Coonabarabran Golf Club has paid off.
The club received a prestigious Clubs and Community Award over the weekend in the category of Arts and Culture.
With over 150 submissions contesting the seven categories, Zoe said their win came as a “complete surprise”.
The Coonabarabran Golf Club was pitted against the likes of Hornsby RSL and McClean District Bowling Club.
“I originally submitted our club in the Heart of the Community category, but I guess we fitted our winning category way better,” Ms Holcombe said.
The club’s submission included the work involved in running the Dive In Movies throughout the shire, the Australia Day awards and Slip ‘N Slide, and the collaboration with other local businesses for the Pizza and Pints night.
“But also opening our club up for the many groups in town to use for their fund-raising - for free,” Ms Holcombe said.
“Our club is here for the community and so many people get to utilise it.”
Ms Holcombe was star struck and lost for words when she received the award from former yellow Wiggle, Greg Page, alongside MC of the night, Ben Fordham.
“This award is to all our staff, members, volunteers and guests that support our little club through drought, COVID shutdown and now a mice plague,” she said.
“To our board of the club for all the long hours we put in, we finally have come through with something we should be all proud of and can display with pride.
“We will present the award to everyone on 4 June - so come along for a good night out.”
