Newcastle Jets blast into Galaxy Football Club
Soaring, scoring and more as the Newcastle Jets train up the local soccer club.
The Coonabarabran Galaxy Football Club kicked into gear last weekend, with two coaches from the Newcastle Jets making the pilgrimage to Coonabarabran.
Over Friday and Saturday, the Jets delivered four training sessions that were brimming with practical tips to help local players develop their skills.
James Lawson, president of the Galaxy Football Club, said the sessions provided students, members and coaches with new perspectives on the game.
Members of the club were also presented with resources and offered tickets to attend a Jets’ A-League match.
The Club’s coaches received a private session with the professionals, as they learnt how to implement new drills and techniques.
They then implemented these new drills during a training session with players, under the guidance of the Jets’ coaches.
Mr Lawson noted the value in bringing the Jets out to Coonabarabran.
“For the young coaches exposed to the training sessions, I feel it shows them what is possible,” Mr Lawson said.
“It also brings something new and different to the town.”
The Jets have regional limits imposed on the distance they can travel.
However, while driving to Sydney, Mr Lawson called to the head office of the Newcastle Jets and relayed the Galaxy Club’s plight to its CEO.
“All the right people were there,” he said.
“I showed a lot of enthusiasm and we walked out with contacts, a good introduction and free merchandise.”
The future goals of the Galaxy Football Club include further developmental opportunities, while providing lots of support and fun.
“We aren’t spoilt for choice, but it is what you make of it,” Mr Lawson said.
During their visit to Coonabarabran, the Jets’ coaches were treated to a tour of some local attractions, including a flight over the Warrumbungles, expertly piloted by Shelley Moore from the Coonabarabran Aero Club.
